The New Declaration of Independence
January 7, 2005, the unanimous declaration of The United Blue States of America

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Ethics and of Science entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.


We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by the laws of Science and Nature with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, Privacy, and the pursuit of Happiness.

To secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Human Beings, deriving their just powers from the Consent of the Governed. Governments are established to safeguard these rights, and derive their power from the People.

Whenever any Form of Government neglects its duties to protect these rights, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, which will protect the foundation of such principles. And to form a new Government powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to ensure their Safety. The long established Government is not being frivolously challenged. All experience hath shown, that all of mankind and the planet are more disposed to suffer, as a result of the United States of Americas actions. A long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce us under absolute Despotism, it is our right, it is our duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for future generations and national security.

Such has been the case of these Blue States and Blue State Citizens in spirit throughout the Red States. It is, therefore, now the necessity to alter the former System of Government. The President of the United States and Republican Party has a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all being in direct establishment of an absolute Plutocracy over the People. To prove this, let Facts be submitted truthfully to the world.

A large portion of the Representatives of the Republican Party(He) have refused Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.



  1. He have forbidden Democrats and Independents to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless forced by constitutional obligation into Congressional debate; and when so challenged, he has utterly neglected to truthfully debate and has ridiculed dissenting opinions.
  2. He have refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, in New York for example, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right they don’t understand and understood by the plutocrats only.
  3. He has called together legislative bodies at unusual and uncomfortable times, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
  4. He has caused Legislators to be elected, who do not represent the interests of the People rather instead the interests of Corporations. In Georgia, for example, deliberately unseated elected Legislators who question their tactics and in their own primary elections have slandered potential candidates for the purpose of electing particular plutocratic and possibly fascist candidates.
  5. He has endeavored to prevent the population of these States by certain peoples and encouraged the population of these States by other peoples without regard to the safety of the Nation nor the encouragement of intellectual advancement of the State; for that purpose obstructing the Naturalization of Foreigners; and at the same time to encourage others their migrations.
  6. He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by establishing Judiciary powers not granted in the Constitution.
  7. He has made Judges dependent on his partisan will, for the tenure of their offices.
  8. He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our People under the Patriot Act.
  9. He has affected to render the willing Military into slavery through a backdoor draft.
  10. He has imposed corporate rule on the Land without the knowledge of the People, and without means of recourse.
  11. He has denied to subject us to a foreign jurisdiction ratified by our laws under the Geneva Conventions:

    - For quartering large bodies of troops on unarmed sovereign nations:
    - For influencing them, by a mock Trial and Election, from Punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of their States:
    - For damaging Trade with all parts of the world; through taxation and fiscal irresponsibility:
    - For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
    - For transporting foreigners beyond Seas to be held indefinitely, out of our legal jurisdiction, for unanswered offences:
    - For altering fundamentally the Forms of Governments of sovereign nations.
  12. He has suspended the Privacy Rights of the People.
  13. He has suspended the Health Rights of the People, established in our first Declaration of Independence under the clause "...that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness..."
  14. He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of order and waging a propaganda war against us.
  15. He has allowed the plunder of our oceans, fresh water bodies, soil, food supplies, and destroyed the Lives of our people through sickness.
  16. He has at this time and other times in recent history transported large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, under the guise of Liberty, with circumstances of cruelty & perfidy paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
  17. He has enlisted our fellow Citizens to bear Arms against innocents, to become the executioners and torturers of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
  18. He has excited foreign insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our land, merciless terrorists, whose rule of warfare and armies worsen by his actions in foreign lands.
  19. And finally he has frustrated national elections, by means of voter suppression; thereby, ensuring the true will of the People is unknowable and recourse is unattainable.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: our repeated Petitions in Congress have been repeatedly unanswered, silenced or criticized. A political Party, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to make or alter laws of a free people.

We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their Party to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over the People. We have reminded them of the legal consequences. We have appealed to their conscience and ethics, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably end our partisanship and discontent. Sadly they have been deaf to the voices of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, endeavor in the necessity, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, criminally accountable for their actions.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the United Blue States of America, peaceably assembled, appealing to the Humanity of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Blue States, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Blue States of America are, and of Right ought to be a Free and Independent Country; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the United States Of America, and that all political connection between them and the country, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, we have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent Countries may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of Mankind and Planet, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

As if Democrats don't do this either? What about the Democrat-led filibusters of judicial nominees that is crippling Federal judicial efficiency? Are there no Democrats who ridiculed dissenting opinions (Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, Dascle, Boxer)?

When did this happen? The President cannot call sessions of Congress except, as quoted in the Constitution, "extraordinary" instances. The only time this happened was after 9/11, a time when the nation needed the leadership of both the President and Congress.

The president cannot force the election of a candidate. The Georgian example was an instance which was compliant with state law, meaning it had to be passed by the people of Georgia.

The government cannot handle the huge influx of potential immigrants and foreigners because too many foreigners abuse the system. My parents came to America from the Philippines, and they played by the rules. It took almost a decade before they could get green cards. And they believe in tighter immigration control. We can't just let everyone in. Either follow the process and endure the wait, or stay out. It's that simple.

The constitution doesn't grant everything. The establishement of these judiciary powers was enacted by the Congressional bipartisanship.

Bullshit. Judges have a life term, and no government official can threaten a judge because of this. This is a judicial check against executive and legislative power.

"Backdoor draft" my ass. Every person who volunteers for military service knows that they can be called up any time during their "inactive" status, that is, five years after the initial commitment. After those 5 years of inactive status, they are no longer required to serve. No draft here. I wonder why Senator Hollings and Congressman Rangel (both Democrats) introduced legislation that would reinstate the draft in the first place.

When? There are constitutionally defined cases in which trial by jury is not required.

Once we capture foreign fighters who have shown agression to Americans, their home nations (which usually revoke their citizenships) LEGALLY EXTRADITE them to the United States. Out of jurisdiction my ass.

So you do not approve that Afghanistan's government was altered from a brutally sexist, intolerant, theocratic regime? That Saddam can't have people raped and killed for no reason? You fraud.

Forget that law enforcement agencies still need warrants, and that this policy only came into effect by an Act of Congress, right?

No, he just doesn't believe in a government-run socialized system. He believes that people should work for benefits, not get in handed to you at taxpayers' expense. "Barbarous cruelty" would be bombing the hell out of Iraq with disregard for civilians. "Cruelty" would mean supporting a regime who raped, murdered, and tortured millions of its owm citizens for no reason. Cruelty would be taking foreign civilians hostage, chopping off their heads, and releasing a video tape of the execution to the media. Our troops are dying because they have to be careful in civilian areas, whereas the enemy has no disregard for life, and you have the guts to say this about them?

Voter suppression? After presidential election voter turnout was at an all-time high? Quit bitching, even the democrat candidates acknowledged Bush's sufficient margin of victory.

Who are you to speak for the entire blue states? Has some congress or comittee representing the blue states appointed you to write this declaration? Do you really want to secede from the Union? You traitor. This is tantamount to treason in every sense of the word. Last time there was a succession, a Republican president kicked your ass, and it'll happen again (if you can get your stupid sucession campaign off the ground). What makes you think that ANY state wants to leave the Union? If you'd rather secede just because someone you don't agree with is TEMPORARILY in power, then that is treason. If you'd rather secede, that is, run like a wimp instead of fighting for change through the Democratic process, then you are undeserving of your title as an American. Whatever happened to "one nation indivisible"?

I am giving you a link on the filibustering of Bush II and Clinton nominees. You will see that the republicans filibustered almost 7 times more nominees during the Clinton Presidency than the Democrats have during this Presidency comparing both in respective time frames.

Correction, the republicans filibustered approximately 22 times more nominees, not 7 times more. At the same point in each Presidency, Bush has had 3 filibustered and at this time in the Clinton Presidency the republicans had filibustered 65.
Please point this out to people who use this argument.

I'm coming from the point of view that I don't agree with the use of filibuster in any circumstance by either side. Filibuster is a tactic of minority rule for the sake of "parliamentary tradition". I'm saying that both sides will gain more credibility if they did not use filibuster. While I agree that Republicans have used filibuster as well (in an overwhelming number of instances), my argument was an attack against Amy's point "He has forbidden Democrats and Independents to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance...".

What I meant by my argument is that Democrats have done the same, obviously for partisan reasons. I think it wrong to condemn someone for an action that is carried out by the accuser himself. No matter how many more times the GOP has used filibuster, the fact still stands: Democrats use filibuster as well, thus, they have also forbidden Republicans to pass things of "immediate and pressing importance".

I wouldn't call the mutilation and desecration of a national document "creative" or full of "humor". I wouldn't think that a declaration of independence made by one person claiming to represent the Blue States (with the lack of any general consensus of the blue states, I might add) is funny. You wan't "creativity and humor"? I write for the Jesse Factor, a site that has a broad sphere of influence and is both reknowned and condemned for its no-holds-barred, satirical, and witty commentary. And you know what? We welcome the criticism. We don't tell people that they'll "never win" because of a self-imposed claim of humor and creativity. We let our readers do the talking. And how can "humor and creativity" be on anyone's side anyway? It's not like some intangible quality has the ability to choose preferences. Humor and creativity is demonstrated and exhibited, then verified by others who witness it. Humor and creativity are not claimed through a condecending, holier-than-thou attitude.
